Should I have an offsite or onsite Oscar Installation?

Please peruse the table below to determine whether you should deploy an offsite or onsite solution.

OffsiteOnsite
Internet Connection
  • If your office loses its internet connection, then you lose access to your EMR
  • Typically doctors choose to have redundant internet connections, hoping that if one ISP goes down, the other would still work
Your EMR runs independent of your internet connection, which is a big plus
HardwareRenting hardware offsite is cheaper than owning, storing, and maintaining your own hardware, because of economies of scaleMore upfront costs: need to buy two servers (both primary and backup), UPS (Uninterruptable Power Supply). You will also need to maintain hardware (Test UPS batteries), etc.
Physical SecurityHosting Facilities are generally very secure with 24 hour staffReasonably secure, typically a locked closet
